Becoming a coach

We have lots of enquiries from people who are interested in pursuing coaching as a career. The first step is to find a credible coach training organisation.

We recommend the following schools which are all International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited.

  • Open Door Coaching Group offers an exceptional face to face Certificate IV in Workplace & Business Coaching program. Courses are run in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra at various times throughout the year.

  • International Coach Academy (ICA) is the school Kate James attended.

  • CoachU is another excellent general coaching school offering face to face training in Sydney and various other international locations.

There are very few advertised positions available for coaches in Australia so most coaches establish their own private practice. Whilst it is wonderful having your own business, it can also take time to build your client base so it's important that you have realistic expectations about this. Some people find it better to ease into a practice, working part time for a period of time in another role. This can really take the pressure off and allow you to find your feet while you establish your name.

Before you begin your training, think about your point of difference - there are lots of coaches out there so it's important that you know where you want to position yourself to make marketing your business as easy as possible.

If you're interested in participating in a coaching program before commencing, please
    contact us for details.
